Professor Markus Heilig is one of the most highly cited addiction researchers of his generation. He has led one of the largest research programmes on addictive disorders in the world at the US National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

Currently, he is  the Director at the Centre for Social and Affective Neuroscience, Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Linköping University,  Sweden.

Professor Heilig’s presentation will set out the latest research on the brain mechanisms behind alcohol addiction, as well as explaining the relationship between addiction and mental health.
